Onlines advantage is that you don’t have to travel, and you can gamble in you underwear.
Disadvantage is that you don’t get a "read" on the other people that you are playing with, and it is an algorithmic generation of cards being dealt. Good Luck

The big advantage is that you don’t have to go anywhere. You will find game 24/7. And it’s fast! You’re going to see a lot more hands per hours. You can play several table at the same time. For example if you enter a tourney, with 1000 players, you might be at the final table in less then 8hrs. Live that would be a 2/3 days tournament. One other important thing: No mistake from the dealer, no misdeal….etc.
I love both, online, live. I play between 20 to 70 hrs a week online. ( I actually played more than 4 hrs already today) But don’t get me wrong, I love live games also, and I can be at the casinos for hours.

They are fewer than in live games and the only advantage is that they cant see your eyes or face.. Which is only useful to experts anyway.. There are very few experts..true experts online.. Most are god awful chasers of unlikely inside straights.

2. More tables per session equals more money.
3. You don’t have to go anywhere.
4. You don’t have to wait for a game.
5. It is easier to determine pot odds and implied odds.
6. More awareness of timing of bets, raises and checks.
7. No cheaters or arguments over who has the best hand
(When you’re playing your friends or hard headed people)
8.Easier to be aware of your chip stack compared to not only the blinds, but to other chip stacks.
9. Features like note taking and statistics.
10. A different and wider variety of the types of games you want to play and feel more comfortable with.

Online pluses:
The action moves faster. You play at least twice, perhaps 3 x as many hands as you do live.
The rakes are lower than in a live game, generally and depending on the site.
There is always a game at the level or stakes you want. No waiting, no risk of not having the type of game you’re looking for available.
Tournaments have HUGE player pools. Most tournaments have more players than any major-event live tourney.
Huge range of buy-ins for tourneys and table stakes for ring games. You can buy into a tourney for a dollar or less, play .10-.25 micro games or play $100 or more buy-ins where you’re pretty much gauranteed to have a good sized prize pool.
You don’t have to worry about tells. There are a few actions you can interpret but for the most part you’re just playing your cards and the betting action of the other players.
Negatives:
Insane play. People treat money online like it’s monopoly money, even in real cash games with big buy-ins. The amount of sucking out is appalling and people don’t factor large raises very well.
It’s a different world than live games. You can really f-ck up your live game if you play too much online or switch too frequently between the two.
The risk of crashes. If a server goes down or your computer crashes you can lose a winning game fast.
Psychos. It’s disgusting what people will say and how they’ll act when they’re not sitting in front of you. A lot of players online make Phil Hellmuth look like Doyle Brunson in behaviour.
The risk of collusion. With IM’ing and since it’s harder to track individual actions you run the risk of being at a table with colluders. It’s not too widespread but it’s much more prevalent than in live games.
Overall I still prefer online play, if for no other reason than I don’t have to travel to a casino and I can eat what I want, wear what I want and just generally do my own thing while I play.

Online is more relaxed in that you can sit down, play when you want, sit out when you want, etc. You can read betting patterns online but obviously not tells. In live poker at a table you can tell your opponent quickly and have the opporutunity to take advantage of it. Both have good and bad and can be enjoyable.
Online play is much much faster and you have to be patient because since you are playing so many hands you have a desire to jump in more often. I watch the stats on my play while I’m playing so that I don’t look and find out I’ve been in 45% of the flops lol

Just like the commercials say, if you’ve got a bad poker face, online is the place to be. If you wear your emotions on your sleeve, you’ll get creamed in live play.

I love online poker because I can sit in my aparment while I play, wearing whatever I want, eat and drink from my fridge, and teach my dog a trick or two. Plus, my girlfriend gets very jealous when I play online. Sometimes she tries to get my attention away from the game by going under the desk!!! I’ve even had sex in the computer chair once while I was in the middle of a tournament. Plus, my girlfriend can watch me play and we can learn about the game together.
