How much can playing online Poker help you in terms of playing Poker in real life?

Since Poker is part strategy and part reading the other players how much can you expect to improve in real life Poker(face to face) if you practice via online Poker?

understanding what cards are good cards, and how often your going to hit a good hand with draws, and how to play your cards in each position, and observing people’s betting patterns, and what you should or shouldn’t bet to maximize your pot winnings, are 99% of poker, whether online or face-to-face. actually reading people’s expressions is only a small 1% of that. one person’s nervous twitch when he has an ace-high flush could be another person’s nervous twitch when he’s bluffing the board with a 6-high

The amount it helps depends on where you play, if its a highly casual place, it may just be filled with kids going all in all every time they get a good hand.
If you play on pokerstars or something you may build up your skill at reading what hands are on the board.
No matter what experience will help, especially for recognizing what hands people likely have

It can help you see a lot of hands. In other words it can help you with the ability to read flops quickly and know what the hooks and pitfalls of continuing in the hand are. You can develop great skills in knowing how to bet and when to fold. There are distinct differences between the two games, but for the most part the games have a lot of similarities. We just had this same question asked in our forum. Good luck.

Playing online poker is better than face to face games. That is because

    - The eye contacts will make you nervous.
    - You will get distracted with the noise
    - You will also get distracted because then you will try to guess the cards of other players through their gestures.
    - You cannot do other work simultaneously.

Tremendously, if it’s real-money poker you’re talking about. Most of poker is about reasoning through the actions on each street and the way each player has been playing throughout the session, not about picking up tells. You can learn probably 95% of poker from playing online. If you become a winning online player, you’ll definitely win in live poker.

Live poker and online poker are extremely different. On line poker such as poker stars is a miss-represetation of live poker. online poker you will experience full houses gettig beat by quads more frequently, and having trips just to get beat by straights. Yes bad beats happen live but online poker takes it to the extreme. Neither live or online do you have control over what cards are being dealt but online the program has control.

Playing Poker online definitely helps in real life. For one, you learn to count odds and outs. Second, you learn strategies without looking like a fool in person.
